"A Share of the Harvest" 2010 C.S.A.

What is a C.S.A. or "Share of the Havest"?

Community Supported Agriculture (also called CSA or Subscription Vegetable Farming) is an innovative approach to the relationship between farmers and those who enjoy fresh food. With a preseason payment, members purchase a "share" of the season's harvest, a diverse assortment of seasonal vegetables each week from early June through late October.

Shares of the Harvest -

Family members living close to one another often find it convenient to purchase one full share and disperse as needed by each family weekly. Half shares work for a smaller family. While some people find it easy to split a whole share, others prefer to get their own half share. If it is convenient for our members several can pick up for each other.
Dependent on the season, we might have excesses of particular produce. When this occurs we offer quantities of this produce on a first come, first served basis.
In 2009 we offered strawberry picking each pick up day and Saturday mornings. This seemed to work well and we plan to continue this offering in 2010. It is a great time to bring children to the farm for a visit.

Noted Benefits of a C.S.A. -

 Support the local economy and preserve open space by keeping agricultural dollars in NY and keeping local farms in business

 Reduce the number of miles your food travels and the amount (by 75%) of fossil fuels used: that conserves energy and promotes sustainable agriculture

 Seasonally fresh food at an affordable price. You know where your food comes from, you know who grows it

  Taking a more active role in curbing concerns of Ecoli or salmonella contamination in larger commercial farms.
